Mantra is one of my favorite parts of the yogic practice. It is a powerful instrument for self-transformation. That transformation can only occur when we are turning our attention back to the source, to the self. And that … well that is hard. I will be honest with you and as a yogi and a teacher I find meditation challenging! I know there I admitted it. I’m human and I want you to feel free to be human as well. That is the only path I know back to the self. It has to include … and I really mean include your human side. The reason I like mantra is it gives your mind something to do. One of the oldest and most powerful of these mantras is the Gayatri. The mother mantra. It is said to bestow great wisdom and enlightenment .. and in my case a calmer mind and heart. There are many interpretations but basically it says ” We meditate on the effulgent glory of the divine Light; may she inspire our understanding.”
